DO PEOPLE of faith have a role to play in South Africa’s constitutional democracy? This question has been debated at length since the dawn of our democracy and more especially since our secular Constitution was signed into law in 1996. Secularists believe the elevation of South Africa’s secular Constitution as the supreme law of the land has automatically consigned all religious thought and opinion on public policy matters to the dustbin of the nation’s tragic history.

Any submission on public policy issues that bears the slightest inference to Christian moral values is immediately rejected as a violation of the separation between church and State.
